The last great movie about influential R&B that comes to mind is 'The Five Heartbeats'. However, I'm quite excited about this film, Cadillac Records. While I'm not a huge fan of Beyoncé's acting 'talents', I think she will do better with a strong ensemble cast surrounding her. The film features Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess, the founder of Chicago's Chess Records, Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon, and Columbus Short as Little Walter.

It's worth noting that Beyoncé was bitter about losing to Jennifer Hudson at the Golden Globes last year and some people thought she was 'snubbed' for an Academy award nomination. Now it seems like a better fit for her to play blues singer Etta James in Cadillac Records, along with an impressive cast of actors.

In fact, Willie Dixon himself sang a song that opens the film: 'Now when I was a little boy / At the age of five / I had somethin' in my pocket / Keep a lot of folks alive...'. The song sets the tone for the story of Chess Records and its stars. With such a strong cast and soundtrack, Cadillac Records is shaping up to be a great film about influential R&B music.
